Bris Checklist

Everything you need to prepare for your son's Bris Milah ceremony and circumcision. Use this guide to ensure a smooth and meaningful celebration.

Before the Bris (1-2 Weeks)

Early preparation helps ensure everything is ready for the special day.

  • Contact the Mohel to schedule the date and time
  • Confirm the location (home, synagogue, or venue)
  • Discuss any special customs or traditions with the Mohel

Medical Preparation

Ensure your baby is healthy and ready for the ceremony.

  • Confirm baby is healthy with pediatrician
  • Inform Mohel of any medical concerns or conditions
  • Have baby's medical records available if needed
  • Ensure baby has been feeding well
  • Note any family history of bleeding disorders

Day of the Bris

What to have ready on the morning of the ceremony.

  • Baby should not eat 30 minutes before the Bris
  • Have a clean diaper and outfit ready
  • Prepare sweet wine (for the ceremony)
  • Set up a table for the Mohel's instruments

Kibbudim & Honors

Meaningful roles given to loved ones during the bris ceremony.

  • Kvatter - brings baby into the room where the bris is being held
  • Kise Shel Eliyahu - putting the baby on the chair of Eliyahu HaNavi
  • Min HaKise - pick up the baby from the chair of Eliyahu HaNavi
  • Sandak - holds the baby during the bris (usually given to the grandfather of the baby)
  • Brachos - recites the final blessing (usually given to a Rabbi)
  • Besamim - making the blessing on fragrant spices (a Sefardic custom)
  • Krias HaShem - naming the baby

Making sure you have everything you need for the Bris
